Then just install Debian over the Gentoo installation. The instructions
are here:

linux-upgrade>. I have found that this method works when I couldn't get
Debian to boot from CD. The Debian CD just don't get updated that often
so sometimes necessary drivers aren't available even when the source
for the drivers is available.

I wasn't really recommending Fedora as a permanent solution, though I
like it well enough myself. I just find it easier to start with Fedora
sometimes as a step in installing something else rather than trying to
install the something else in one shot.
