I haven't heard of this. I also don't use proprietary drivers, so if that's
the issue I won't have seen it.
Is it being moved to something else?
You know more than I about what the kernel does due to tainted drivers.
Maybe debian has a user space util to move them.
cat /etc/kernel*
Anything of interest show up?
