No fix for iMac other than replacing motherboard - USB connects are
directly to motherboard.

Hard drive can be removed and inserted into G3/G4 and data can be copied
directly to another drive and thus allow for abandonement of iMac
without repair - dealer who sells him new Mac might be willing to do
that.
