I am running redhat9/Ximian Desktop 2 on my inspiron 8500. I have an
external logitech wireless optical I would love to get working with the
system. I can't seem to get it working either standalone or in
combination with the touchpad (the ultimate goal).
I have been banging away at this for several days. It appears as though
all of the driver information is correct, however cat /dev/input/mice
while moving it yields nothing. I am not sure where to go from here.
Mouse works on other windows system. Othe usb devices like mass storage
cf, from a nikon coolpix or a cannon d1 or eos10d.
At this point I am not worried about X configuration or gpm, just
finding a way to verify that the systems sees the mouse and can get
coordinate data from it. I seem to recall always being able to cat mouse
devices and get junk when you moved them as an easy way to test them. Is
this true for usb mice?
cat /dev/input/mouse0 yields:
cat: /dev/input/mouse0: No such device
Not sure if it is supposed to work though. I have chmoded 666
/dev/input/mice and /dev/input/mouse0 .

scratcher for me so I would appreciate any help or other diagnostic
methods.
