I have yet to experience the dependency hell that pushed me over from
Mandrake 8.2 to Gentoo on my SERVER, and that was the second gentoo
install I did too, or anything at all remotely close. It automatically
figures out what all packages need to be installed, downloads them,
compiles them, and installs them all in the proper order. The one
problem I had once was with a major version change in perl and two
modules i had installed needed to be removed because they would cause a
conflict with 5.8.0 because they were rendered obsolete. I had installed
these two modules with emerge so removing was as easy as "emerge unmerge
name".
