seems a bit drastic to yank out apt-get stuff and besides, apt-get
remove/install isn't going to affect your .mozilla personal
files/bookmarks etc.

First why don't you check

ls -l ~/.mozilla/what_ever/history.dat

note that the 'what_ever' is a random salt created when your profile was
created

why not move it out of that directory and my guess is that Mozilla will
create a new history file when it starts again.
