I would be interested in doing a basic security class. I would use the SANS
securing Linux step by step for a guide, all the students should buy a copy.
$49.00 from their web site, some of it is a bit dated but can be applied
nevertheless. There is also a six user license version for $79.00, if people
prepay then we could purchase that for them and save a bit. It would be
geared toward workstations, although I could do some server level stuff if
there is interest. I am most comfortable with RedHat so I would use that as
the baseline for the course. The version can be anything from 6.0 to 7.2,
whatever people have the most interest in.
As far as time, I would think that 6 hours should be enough for a
workstation class, perhaps separated out into two days. Evenings would be
best so people are off work, maybe Saturday and Sunday although I am
flexible currently. I would think between 10 and 20 people would be fine.
I would like one workstation and monitor for each two students, as well as
a projector that I can plug into my workstation. I do not have this so
hopefully it can be provided. (I will bring my own system, and can provide
my own monitor, but would rather not haul the monitor around if one can be
provided.)
I am thinking around $75.00 per head, but if that is too much or too little
let me know. I have never done a formal class for this before, or for
anything else, so I am open to suggestions from those who have. Thanks.

Adrian

Apparently I missed something. It's my understanding that our city is now
without a great Network Security Administrator as George Toft has found the
opportunity to be employed in Florida.

The reason for the post though is that I would like to begin a project that
I have been putting together. George was going to be the Newbie Teacher
for Linux but since he is not in town, I need a replacement. The concept
will be to hold classes for a variety of programs, functions or abilities
within a room at my office location. I would like to hold meetings with
potential "teachers" and gather information about written material, class
times and such. If anyone is interested in doing classes on the west side,
whether one time classes, periodic or weekly classes, please respond to me
with the following:

1. Type of class
2. Do you have written material?
3. Proposed length of class
4. Proposed class volume
5. Equipment needs
6. Days or frequency and times you are available for teaching
7. Proposed fees to students

I also need to have listed anything else that does not fit into items above
that would help determine class needs. Item #7 above will include your
costs, material costs, costs of the facility and other minor costs. These
fees should be very much affordable to the student and the propose class
size.

Keep in mind that this is preliminary searching and apply only if you are
willing to make the commitment to classes, traveling, coordinating with my
office and are willing to make a little cash!
: )

I will be scheduling time today for this week to create a website interface
and such. So, forgive me for the request for email replies. Otherwise, to
chit chat about this project, please call my office at 602-375-5363. (I
have been sick and barely have a voice today but it's strong enough to
last! hehe).
