Subject: Cable Modem
after recently reinstalling my system (problems resulted from the X 4.0.1 install)
I was unable to get dhcpcd -h <hostname> -D to work. it took booting to
windows 98, getting an assigned IP from them and then rebooting back to
linux before I could get the static IP to work (dhcpcd doesn't appear to work
anymore.).

however, I am back on the net right now using static IP addressing under linux.

go figure
