hookup to cable modem was easy

HI, all- My internet connection to Cox.net with Mandrake 8.2 was also a 
no-brainer.    Unfortunately, ongoing connectivity is another matter. At 
least once every couple of days, I log on to only to discover that 
DHCPCD has lost the connection. It seems like DHCPCD does not know that 
it needs to do over, as once I do a "dhcpcd -k" followed by "dhcpcd" I 
am fine. Is there a straightforward way to diagnose and fix this? It is 
really getting to be a pain in the ass.
