Um, that’s actually a copyright issue, not one involving alterations. Frankly, if you own the physical media, you can do anything with it so long as you don’t share it with others. That means up to, and including, making a physical backup or Digital copy for your machine. I believe this might fall under fair use. Then again, I am no lawyer or officer of the court.
Now, as for creating a dvd/blu-ray, there are tools available to do that. I don’t need to name them here as they are already known. Now, so long as your digital copy is under your control and not being shared with anyone else, I don’t see what the problem is. Still, if you want the finer points of the law, best to consult an attorney well versed in media and copyright.
