Wow. I've been a LAMP admin for about 5 years ... that's a first for me.
You said you can duplicate this on a vanilla LAMP with "Hello World"
content? I've seen some strange PHP errors with IE, so I'd start there ...
vanilla Apache and HTML "Hello World".
