I usually start with canned air. Plain ol' isopropyl alcohol from the
pharmacy aisle works great on battery terminals. Just put some on a swab
and rub. Leaves no residue.
DeOxit is the preferred cleaner, but WD-40 works well too. Both can make
a mess, it only takes a drop or three to clean a switch, connector or
pot. Use some cotton rounds and pad the surrounding area to soak up
over-spray.
Some silicone based lubes can damage plastic parts. WD is pretty benign.
