Let's get some background to answer your question as to why Linux makes all
this so complicated:
What distro are you setting up?
Let's go from bottom up:
A) Do you have link light on the card and router?
B) What does the last few entries in "dmesg" show you?
C) What does "tail /var/log/messages" show you [alternately try "tail
/var/log/syslog"]:
Answer back with that info and we can go from there....
Some things to "try" if you have network manager:
Remove the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-Wired_connection (copy to
backup), and add a new entry in the Gui.
No joy? simple move it back and enter "service NetworkManager restart"
Check that you don't have iptables enabled (without ports allowed for
67:68):
"iptables-save"
"iptables -F" flushes it (warning if you are using a complex table or
OpenVPN)
