Even with a 10% unemployment rate? That is the government number. It is being reported that the real unemplyement number is closer to 19%. And there are those who are under employed.
Also there is no proof we need these laborers. Just because a farmer says he can't find labor it might be true. What we might need is to re-invent farming. We might need some capital investment and just maybe Americans will take these jobs.
I seem to recall Tyson saying there was a shortage of labor so they had to hire illegals. After a raid and removal of maybe 300 illegals, as I recall, Tyson found willing employees just a few miles away in a back community that had high unemployment and had been denied jobs.
What did it take to get those AMERICAN citizens into those jobs? A few buses and a few more dollars and hour.
So do we really need guest workers and those H1B Visa folks? I need to see a dozen studies done by disinterested researchers before I can make a decision either way.
Just because Bill Gates and a few farmers in Yuma say it is so does not mean it is.

I agree - what I would like to see is not to allow more immigration
but allow more guest workers. No rites, heavily taxed, but documented
and working.
