It totally depends on the VPN in use and the settings on it. There's
a new VPN here that has less functionality than the old one, and it
could allow Linux clients. But for some reason, they won't even
consider turning that functionality on.

Newer webcams tend to follow the USB Video Class standards, so they
are supported by the uvcvideo module. Ubuntu has warts, but it's a
reasonable place to start.

OOO is good *if* the MS Office files you have to work with are
reasonably simple. I've had it choke horribly on really complex
Excel documents, but that was ~2 years ago and things may have
improved. Evolution is probably an OK client, but it will not
connect to newer versions of Exchange Server, so if your company
is using that bloated sack, you may be out of luck.
