If you have access to Ghost, I would suggest making a Ghost image of the
dying machine. Then load that Ghost image into a VM on your linux box. This
would carry all information needed.

And, yes, you can do it this way. You *may* get a blue screen on boot of the
VM. If so, take the disc you used to install the original machine and run a
repair on Windows. This will locate and load the appropriate disk driver.

The good part about this method is that you still have a backup of the
original on the original disk.

If you don't have access to Ghost, you may want to ask the guys what tool
you can use as an alternative.

VMWare works like a champ on both Linux and Windows. So, I would go with
VMWare. QeMU does work if you prefer that one.
