I had a "screening" interview by phone. Then I had a real phone
interview, unfortunately when I was quite sick. No go there. Then I
talked with some of the Google guys after a PLUG meeting and was
re-queued, and had an in-person interview. No go there, either. Funny
thing, but I think it was probably a good call on Google's part. I was
applying for an SA position, and I'm afraid I'm a coder rather than an
SA. I'm plenty smart enough to do good SA, but I just don't have the
mindset, viewpoint, whatever. I may still be a better SA than most, but
Google is looking for excellence (as they should). Yes, I've thought
about applying for a dev position, but I keep seeing words like "Java"
in their job descriptions. Yeah, you bet. Then I'll light my hair on
fire and put it out with a ball-peen hammer.

I think Google is a neat company and would be great to work for, as long
as it's a good fit both ways. Anyone who thinks that fit might be there
should apply. If you don't get an interview, don't take it too
personally. They get a TON of applications from all quarters, and they
can and should be quite choosy. Doesn't mean you're not good at what you
do!
