Subject: Re: Wireless adapter advice
This is one of the resources I looked into when getting the WiFi working on my laptop. This procedure uses NDISWrapper, something I do not want to do, so I skipped over it.
The problem I have is that the kernel (GPL) driver has problems with transmit power due to how the BCM4318 works. The NDISWrapper simply wraps the Windows driver, so it tends to work in more cases, including this one, at the cost of using non-free software. Since WiFi is relatively low priority for me, I chose to wait for the kernel driver to be fixed, rather than run a non-free driver under NDISWrapper.

There are still some connection reliability issues when using NDISWrapper, mostly due to the chip being very low power, but it works most of the time (as I mentioned in my earlier post).
