Hi Alan

Ubuntu offers 'plug and play' like install for LAMP

http://www.ubuntu.com/news/lamp?highlight=%28LAMP%29

I've never used it, but Ubuntu is a well organized group of people, so I
would give that a roll before you delve into HD partitions, etc. If KDE is
a show-stopper, it is possible to install KDE desktop on Ubuntu.

Either way, [k]Ubuntu is by far the best distro I have ever used(
including RH ).

good luck, Alan.
