I have new debian installation (Linux version 2.6.8-2-386
(
horms@tabatha.lab.ultramonkey.org) (gcc version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-13))
#1 Tue Aug 16 12:46:35 UTC 2005), but I am having problems with the video
card and xfree86-4.3.1.
The video card is an ATI 3D Charger AGP. Some research shows that it has the
ATI Rage II/C video controller and 8 MB of on board ram. This card is
supported with the "ati" driver according to the xfree86 documentation.
However, I can only get the display resolution up to 800 x 600. When I run the
same system under Windows 2000 (it is a dual boot machine) I get much higher
resolutions - up to 1280 X 1024, which is consistent with the ATI
documentation for this card. I have not found any documentation from the
xfree86 side that talks about resolution restrictions in the "ati" driver.
I have included my XF86Config-4 file in case someone can see what I am doing
wrong (generated by running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86).
# (Type "man XF86Config-4" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xfree86 package upgrades
*only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xfree86
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following commands as root:
#
# cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.custom
# md5sum /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 >/var/lib/xfree86/XF86Config-4.md5sum
# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
