Subject: OT for Linux, On-topic for Freedom
The House Committee on the Judiciary had H.R. 4569, "The Digital
Transition Content Security Act of 2005" formally introduced this weekend.
This is the bill that would make it illegal to "manufacture, import,
offer to the public, provide or otherwise traffic" in products that do not
prevent recording and/or copying via the analog output of a device.

That's right, no analog recording. It would essentially kill fair use.
No more time shifting, for example. I found coverage first at
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20051218-5797.html, though I am sure
it will start showing up all over the net.

Representative Jeff Flake (http://www.house.gov/flake/contact.htm) is the
only Arizonan on the committee. Please write to him and other committee
members (http://judiciary.house.gov/CommitteeMembership.aspx) and your
other federal representatives. Software freedom is important and so are
other informational freedoms we enjoy.

Alan
