Jay asked the right question. Apparently kanotix updates /etc/modules
at boot time. It seems, (from a google search, since I don't use it)
on kanotix you should do:
echo eepro100 >>/etc/modules-$(uname -r)
It's too bad that kanotix isn't true sid after the harddisk install.
