Dan,

Tried cdrecord --scanbus as user. It gave me a long list of reasons why
it couldn't give me what I wanted. Then I tried it as root.

The result:

root@ip68-2-118-120Pooh-at-Home:/home/bob # cdrecord --scanbus
Cdrecord-Clone 2.01a38 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Joerg

NOTE: this version of cdrecord is an unofficial (modified) release of
cdrecord
and thus may have bugs that are not present in the original version.
Please send bug reports and support requests to

The original author should not be bothered with problems of this
version.

Except for the fact that scanbus found my scanner (which Ubuntu doesn't
recognize), and the fact that cdrecord is having trouble with kernel
2.6.10, I'm not sure what this is telling me. Could you point out the
device address?
