PLUG needs co-lo hardware. We seek donations of a server-class computer
or pieces of one to take advantage of a co-location offer from Deru. We
want something reliable and powerful enough to do good things for a long
time.
- - 1Ghz CPU or more
- - Modern hard drives in hardware RAID 1 with hot-swap
- -- Capacity not an issued since any "modern" drives will have more than
we probably need.
- - 1-2GB RAM
- - Redundant power supplies
- - Dual giga-bit network interfaces
- - Rack mounted to take up less space at Deru.
- - Lots of fans for good cooling.
This thread is for tracking donation offers. If you have comments or
suggestions for different specs than the above, please start a new
thread. If you have something of lesser specs that you still think
would be good enough, discuss it in a different thread. We can all
consider it.
A donation of a complete server is, of course, very generous and would
be accepted! Component donations are acceptable.
Let's not collect the pieces until we think we have a complete set.
Then we will collect them for assembly at one time. I think that would
be better.
All donations will be credited on a special supporter web page on the
new site running on the new server, including your picture if you want.
This is the only "payment" that will be provided. PLUG is not a legal
entity or a non-profit. Any donation will be acknowledged with a
handshake but no tax credit or other direct benefit, monetary or
otherwise will be provided in return. I am not a lawyer, I just want to
be clear about the nature of the donation.
Reply on the list for easier coordination of commitments already made
and donations still needed.
