Subject: rdesktop connection
Someone here suggested rdesktop for remote desktop operations on a
Windows XP box, from Linux. I have it, but it's not working yet.

I have a Cisco VPN client installed and working under Centos, and it
works fine for connecting to Unix boxes at work. I would like to
connect to my XP desktop at work in order to use the Outlook and Remedy
clients that are installed there, and also to persist some sessions with
the various Unix/Linux boxes that I support. That would let me, for
example, start something at work and then check on that session when I
get home.

I have rdesktop installed, but I can't get it to connect. The command
I've used is just:

rdesktop dskvodhner

... where dskvodhner is the internal name of my desktop on the Microsoft
network. The response is "can not connect". When installing rdesktop,
I had to install some xorg libraries and then had to add their linker
path to the Makefile with a -L argument.

Any hints would be gratefully received . . .

Also, off topic: this weekend my remote desktop when connected from my
XP system at home has been glacially slow, while PuTTY connections run
just fine. So I guess that's some sort of Microsoft network problem?
I've been highly impressed with the responsiveness of this connection in
the past.

Thanks,

Vic
