I won't be going to that meeting, but I've fixed a few Dell Latitudes.
I had to fix mine for the same reason.
If the screen isn't cracked you can replace the motherboard/etc for $150
or less on ebay.

Typically there is the main board and the power board (AC/DC) that sits
on top in my case the power board died.
It's best to replace both to save you some grief. Disassembly and
reassembly can be tricky, but if you're careful it isnt too difficult.
