Minicom/hyperterminal have always worked for me for both the 675/678. I think
minicom tried to send a modem string by default so I would start minicom, then
power on modem.
After the modem was configured, I could just telnet to it to do any further
modifications. No need to dig up the Cisco cable or have a system right near
the modem.
