I'm having trouble getting the talk daemon on my server to work. When one
user tries to start a talk session all he gets is a message saying talk is
waiting for an invitation. It just sits there. When I tried ytalk it
told me there's no talk daemon on my server. I've got slackware 9 on it.
I have the following in /etc/inetd.conf
talk dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.talkd
ntalk dgram udp wait root /usr/sbin/tcpd in.talkd
and this in /etc/services
talk 517/tcp #like tenex link, but across
# machine - unfortunately, doesn't
# use link protocol (this is actually
# just a rendezvous port from which a
# tcp connection is established)
talk 517/udp #like tenex link, but across
# machine - unfortunately, doesn't
# use link protocol (this is actually
# just a rendezvous port from which a
# tcp connection is established)
ntalk 518/tcp
ntalk 518/udp
Am I missing something?
Thank you
Jim
