My initial thinking on the pdf format was that it was a plain text file
which could be 'edited' with any text editor and the issue was to
convert the text to a binary picture which would prevent any attempts to
copy/paste the text.
My suggestions can hardly ever be called elegant. It did however cut to
the chase.
