Ubuntu is based upon the Debian Linux distribution, and doesn't have
Xconfigurator installed (that's a RedHat-related thing). Instead, the
correct thing to do is to go to a console (Control-Shift-F1), login, and
then issue the command:
foo:~$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
This should walk you through setting up the X server.
