I didn't say anything about a firewall. I find Sygate Personal to be a
great free windows firewall. Those are my suggestions, not the gospel.
The decision is yours to make. Research them if you like. You gave the
impression that the slowdown occurred after using Norton. Is this the
case or not?

I have used NIS in the past, for several years, and consider it to be
bloatware also, whether used with the AV portion or not. It used to do a
good job, but ended up causing more problems than it was worth.
