To follow-up on this sitituation:

Someone finally documented how to make the TurboTax work with Firefox on
Linux. Essentially you have to spoof the user-agent to report as Firefox on
Windows. Then the web application will work and not try to crankup ActiveX
components. The user-agent settings are documented here:

We are just going to use taxact despite this spoofing information. They don't
require that you lie to them about what browser and OS you are using. :^)
