Yesterday I did the same thing. I deleted everything in /tmp and /var/tmp
because it was just too full. I also deleted the sym links in .kde for
socket-computer cache-computer and tmp-computer. Then I restarted X and tried
to log in, it kept failing at interprocess communications...
I logged in as root, then out, then back in as me and everything worked great.
Maybe it was a coincidence? Give it a shot.
