Subject: Re: Motherboard recommendations?
Michael,
I wonder if you can help me with a tech support question.
I do support for a dozen computers kids use at a local childcare center
which means they have a mix of different, inexpensive and donated boxes.
I have one that is most annoying. The mobo is a Soyo build on the VIA
KT266A chipset. At first it didn't post an image, but after a reseating
of the video card it did.
Then it kept freezing or rebooting even when I was in the bios. I
concluded from this that it was the hardware. Before I had a chance to
test the memory I felt I should try disconnecting the hdd as it gave an
odd sound just before reboot. Now I'm in the bios and no freeze or
reboot. I'm thinking the Antec 300W Switch PS may be the culprit unless
a bad hdd can actually cause this problem. I lack your years of
experience so I'm posting this question to you.
This is an old system that has worked for the previous owned for years
and I suppose a hdd test is in order, if I can run it to completion.
The hdd is a Maxtor D740X-6L, first installed in this system when the
KT266A chipset was new.
Thanks,
Mark B.
