I'm not sure about the 802.11g cards and linux. That's
a good question. You're right they are both 802.11b
cards.

I've been advised that you can use windoze drivers in
linux if you so choose. But you'll need to know how to
use ndiswrapper and I can't offer any support on that.
Possibly somebody here can help with that.

By the way the 802.11b cisco aironet card can be
bought w/ or w/out antennae.

And one more thing, you can't just buy any Netgear
card. Netgear, I'm told, changed to a different
chipset recently.

Also check out Orinoco Gold cards. Heard good things
about them too. But like the cisco cards they are
expensive too.
