I want to build a digital photo frame for my wife for Christmas this year.
(Shh! Don't tell!)
The idea would be to take an old laptop computer that still mostly works,
mount it in a frame, put Linux on it with a slide show program. A small
Linux distro would work fine since all it needs to do is show photos.
The ideal laptop would have:
- A working screen, of course.
- 128MB RAM (maybe less?)
- Pentium class processor preferred but does not need to be fast
- Functional IDE connection and host
- Functional keyboard connection, built in keyboard or external
- Working power supply
- Really, really cheap. No cost (free as in root beer) would be best!
Networking connectivity and a working hard drive would be great but neither is
a show stopper for this project. I can come up with the hard drive or
equivalent if needed.
Does anyone have an old laptop that fits this bill for a cool Linux project?
I promise I'll post a howto page, with pictures, when I am done.
Also, if anyone has already done this before or has any ideas and tips, I am
open for suggestions.
Alan
