Subject: remote connection problem
Hi, I have a windows XP box that I connect remotely all the time. Here
is how. From my linux box, I forward local port 3389 via ssh to port
3389 on the XP box inside the firewall. I then use rdesktop to connect
to localhost which is forwarded through the tunnel to the XP box. I get
a login screen, login and it all works fine.

I am trying to get a remote XP user into the same XP box. I had the user
download putty and set up an ssh session with port forwarding to the
remote XP box in question. He can definatly make it to the ssh server,
as I can see him loged on to the server. He launches XP's remote destop
connection client, which has been configured to operate in windows 98
compatability mode. He then tries to connect to localhost, gets a login
screen on the remote XP box, but can't login. I can login using the same
user name and password that doesn't work for him.

I even established an account with user name test and password test to
try and eliminate typing problems. I can get in from my linux box and he
still can't get in from his XP box.

Any ideas appreciated.

It's sort of ironic that a linux box can connect to an XP box, but an XP
box can't.

Charlie
