I like studying Linux/UNIX and really like building and repairing PCs. I've
been doing both as a hobby for about 3 1/2 years. I took a few semesters of
PC Repair and Upgrade at TVI in Albuquerque. I've been using Slackware
exclusively for the last two years. I don't know nearly enough about
commandline but want to learn more. For various reasons I'm not interested in
pursuing a full degree at this time.
What do people think of the value of certifications like A+ and RCSE? I'm
bothered by the fact that CompTIA says it's A+ certification is
vendor-neutral, but one of the required tests is for Windows proficiency.
Do you recommend any certifications for a leg up in a job hunt, or do
employers only care about BS and MS degrees?
Do the readers of this list have any recommendations for short courses that
would teach me a lot and give me a little piece of paper to show for it? What
schools in the central-to-east valley do you recommend?
Thanks!
