Jim,
Have you considered using linux software raid? It's more affordable
hardware wise. A bit of a learning curve, but not too bad. I set up an
ide raid 1 (mirror) usin RH9, and it was a breeze (entirely gui if you
do it on installation). I've yet to have a problem (knock wood), unlike
many stories I've heard of with hw raid. Don't know about doing it with
debian though. I imagine that from the cli it's the same.
