And why bother, I say. Just click on the "Start" button (I'm assuming KDE here) and log out or shut down.
I just checked and KDE on Knoppix 3.6 works exactly like Windows. Press CTRLALTDEL and a dialog box pops up. So it would be possible to configure it the way you'd like.
