Subject: Who holds the keys to your data?
Another example of why I use Free Software.

Some users of MS Money 2004 enabled a recommended feature that encrypts
your local financial data with your MS Passport authentication login.
Appearently MS made a change to the authentication server last weekend and
many people cannot get to the financial data on their local hard drive.
They are locked out of processing bills or doing any other work since
Monday. Full story here:

While this is another story about MS, it is a reminder of the potential
dangers of entrusting your own data to another entity. Many proprietary
programs can hinder (closed formats) or even block (locked keys) your
control over your own data. If you want to change a critical program,
will that program's maker hinder you from doing what you want with your
data?

Free Software lets you be the owner of your data!

Alan
