I very highly doubt there is any conspiracy here... When you uninstall an
alternate Windows boot loader application like Boot Magic, guess what, it sticks
the resets the drives MBR to hold the Windows Boot Loader. Since more than 98%
of the PCs run Windows, then statistically it makes perfect sense to do this...

To get grub installed in place of the Windows boot loader you will have to
either use a Linux rescue floppy or boot the install CD and go into rescue mode
to configure grub to put itself in the MBR.

Try "man grub" if you get back into your linux partitions or search google for
grub.conf files that will boot linux and windows...
