I meant to include here that references advancing logical arguments
(facts & figures) or emotional arguments (won't someone think of the
little guy) will work equally nicely, due to the requirements of the
paper.

Apologies if this is off-topic. PLUG seems like an appropriate forum
because although the threat is not Linux-specific, the threat to FOSS is
quite real nonetheless. (Didn't Microsoft list patents as a strategy
against FOSS in the original Halloween document?)
