How did you try to start Apache?
Did your try running "httpd"?
Did you try "apachectl start"?
Did you modify your httpd.conf if needed?
What does your Apache error.log tell you about this?

Have a look in your /etc/vsftpd.conf for anonymous_enable.
Where did you get this "vsftp" at? It sounds like you are using a Red Hat
package instead of for SuSe. I don't think the anonftp package is needed.
Just manually make sure your vsftpd.conf is setup as you need.

Maybe run sshd on a different port with debugging enabled and log in to it
and see what it says on the server side.
