Need some advanced XFree86 + DRI help. I have a Thinkpad T40 with a
Radeon Mobility chipset that refuses to do 3D acceleration. It runs
Gentoo 1.4. I put in a different hard drive and loaded RH9, but still
had no 3D acceleration.
gentoo-box# glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: No
redhat9-box# glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: No
Funny thing is that Knoppix 3.3 boots up with 3D acceleration working
perfectly on this laptop.
knoppix-box# glxinfo | grep rendering
direct rendering: Yes
Of course, this is the OPEN SOURCE approach to supporting this hardware
via the dri.sourceforge.net project. The proprietary ATI drivers for
Linux _do_not_support_ this particular chipset. So, as tempting as it
sounds, `emerge ati-drivers` _does_not_ fix the problem here.
Specs (I'll be glad to send any other configs or output):
IBM Thinkpad T40, Pentium M 1500Mhz, 512MB RAM
ATI Radeon Mobility M7 LW (w/128MB RAM)
Gentoo 1.4, Kernel 2.4.20, 2.4.22, 2.4.25
xfree 4.3.0-r5 && xfree-drm 4.3.0-r7
I'm wondering if we have any XFree86 and/or DRI wizards on the list.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
...Kevin
