I never heard of these before, but in a few minutes
with Google I found out:

so they weren't far ahead of Linux.

(Of course, I don't know anyone who has
settled for XP Home.)
My current Win98 gripe is that my C drive
keeps getting outgrown. I really need to
stretch that partition. Or uninstall some
of the glop I've got there, and reinstall
elsewhere. But since my wife has her own
machine now, and my last kid has moved out,
I may be able to cut way back on my use of
Windows anyway.
