One VERY interesting Asterisk hack is a Fax DSP processor thatruns
totally in SOFTWARE. You don't need a modem. You just plug your Asterisk
box into an analog line (FXO) or better and hook up SpanDSP. There are
people playing a lot with it, but no one is doing 'production' use that
I know of.

On a more practical note, how will your system get the dialed number? I
know ISDN can do this, but I am not sure how an analog line can handle
100s of different numebrs. I'd find out what the "recommended" way is
from your telco and pursue whatever is cost effective. You may need to
look into the ifax.com solutions, they are the HylaFax gurus.
