I must apologize for a minor error in what I said in my first post that
makes a substantial difference in trying to rectify my problem: I can
connect via ssh remotely. However, I am unable to authenticate unless I
am connected via a local machine.

With a default install of SuSE 9.0, I can connect via ssh from the same
subnet, but not from a remote subnet. What is it that I need to do to
allow certain hosts on remote subnets to connect via ssh?
