Good question. To be perfectly honest, I have never used the -d flag
either. I just saw the thread and thought, "...there must be some way to
do that in grep alone..." I do not know about non-GNU greps; the only
machines I have to look at right now are Linux, BSD, or Mac OS X - all of
which use GNU grep.
