Before you give up on Mepis the display issue you hadf might have been because
you selected an incorrect resolution.

If that doesn't resolve the issue You could also try going to the Mepis
System Center (an icon on the desktop), select Mouse and Display, select
Monitor, then select the proper monitor and set the frequencies.

I really like Mepis because it is making unix more accessible to the masses.
I mean look at it! I haven't seen a networking GUI on any other dist.
